Beach. Everyone has been working so hard lately so why not take a break and enjoy the beach? You can make sand castles, play in the water, and there are even umbrellas for those who'd rather just relax in the shade. There's a nice row of water melons ready to be smashed later in the day and when the sun goes down, that's when the sparklers come out.
Suffering. It's the hottest time of the year and the citadel doesn't have central air conditioning. The few air conditions that were installed have given up on life after being used so much and now, we really have to make do with what we can while the Konnosuke try to fix it. There's a limited number of fans, plenty of ice cream to go around, and the citadel should be built to circulate air, right? ... Right?!
Spooks. In Japan, summer is a time for horror. Gather around the camp fire and hear some spooky ghost stories or maybe head out into the woods just outside the citadel for a good ol' fashioned test of courage. It's all good, harmless fun! Of course, with so many spirits gathered in one place, what's to say a stray or curious outsider spirit won't join the mix...
Rain. Summer is also known for sudden and torrential downpours of rain. The clouds always seem to grown and darken suddenly and the next thing you know, it's raining sheets and the ground is shaking from thunder. Once it starts, it never seems to stop. Maybe you were caught out in the rain or maybe this is day 7 stuck inside.
Other! It's summer and there are tons of things to do. Go to the general store and stock up on ice cream, wake up in the middle of the night uncomfortable with heat, or run around screaming because cicadas are dying and flying at your face.

He’s now trying to gather as much ice as he can and looking around for anything he can use to flavour the ice. Rain [Ichigo is rather contemplative today. Here he stands on the engawa, looking out silently at the rain and the hydrangeas that are now in full bloom, deep in thought.]
Other! [Today, Ichigo finds himself all alone as all his brothers are out doing various things. It’s nice to have a day to himself once in a while! After tidying up the room a bit, Ichigo opens the doors and windows wide in an attempt to let in some breeze. He’s also managed to secure an electric fan, so he’s quite comfortable as he settles down to do a bit of reading. In the background, there’s the sound of wind chimes gently tinkling in the breeze. Their soft melody soon makes Ichigo sleepy and so if anyone is to walk past the Awataguchi room, they’ll find him curled up on the tatami fast asleep.]
[ Ichi-nii!! Can’t you see that he’s hard at work handing out towels and treating sunburns and slipping starfish down unsuspecting adults’ backs and totally not shooting the occasional glances at the sparklers or anything?
The offer totally catches him by surprise, and he flushes, pursing his lips as he looks down. ]
[Nonsense! You'll always be a kid to him! You are all his precious children!
Ichigo just smiles.]
They aren't just for kids, Yagen. You've worked so hard today already helping me with the others and deserve a break. [He puts a sparkler in Yagen's hand.] Here, go enjoy yourself.
[Don't make him pet your head. Or do you secretly want a head pet, Yagen Toushirou~?]
[ Yagen accepts that sparkler reverently, with both hands, his eyes wide and dancing in the face of this new toy.
Wait, no!!! This is so uncool! With deep regret, he wrenches his gaze away from the sparkler to look up at Ichigo, his cheeks puffed in childish indignation. ]
This isn’t really necessary, Ichi-nii…
[ Why yes he would very much like a headpat. He would like ten headpats, even, but he has enough dignity or stubbornness in him not to just ask for it, gosh. ]
[Ichigo just keeps smiling then he places a hand lightly on his stubborn little brother’s head. He saw the excitement in your eyes earlier, Yagen. You can’t hide it from him.]
[ He can’t…resist…that smile. That perfect Ichi-nii smile that practically guarantees that the tachi will have his way, no matter what. Yagen is weak to it, despite all pretenses, and he has as much of a tantou’s craving for fraternal affection as any of his brothers, to boot.
Besides…Ichi-nii’s warm hand upon his head feels really…nice. Yagen bows, partly to hide his embarrassment. ]

( To be honest, there are so many people here, it's a little overwhelming for someone like Hakusan who is quiet and unused to so many emotions. The fox that is usually on his shoulder hops down and sits patiently next to the tray. Familiar with his small friend, Hakusan takes a small cup from the tray and pours just a little bit of water from a small flask. The fox waits until he is finished and then begins to drink. If the summer is difficult for people then it must be hard for an animal with fur. He pets her fur gently and then speaks again, )

( He asks quietly. He's not very good at understanding others because he is a tsurugi but even he can tell that Ichigo was thinking about something before he bothered him. )
[Ichigo looks a little surprised at the question then he smiles a little sadly, and looks out at the rain. Perhaps it’s okay to confide in him a little.]
... I was just trying to remember the things I’ve forgotten ... Silly, isn’t it?
[He's seen plenty of comrades in moods exactly like this more times than he can count, honestly... As it turns out, having hundreds of years of baggage can really push a sword into some bouts of heavy thinking!
Normally, Kashuu isn't exactly one to interrupt the ones he finds in these contemplative states, either. He operates under a pretty simple rule of thumb: the less you pry into the lives of others, the more likely they are to return the favor and not pry into yours. Not that he doesn't care about his comrades, though. Far from it. It's why he still ends up stopping anyway, arms crossed, leaning against the door frame that leads to the engawa.]

Ah, good afternoon, Kashuu-dono! [He glances at the hydrangeas.] Well, they are hardier than they look and this is their season, so I think they should survive. Were you looking for me for something?
I guess... They bend pretty far, huh? They kinda remind me of camellias.
[Though of course, by contrast, camellias are known for their heavy blooms snapping at the base of the bud... Maybe that's why he's worried about these.

Nah, not really. I just wanted some fresh air. It's starting to get suuuper stuffy inside since we've had to keep the windows and doors closed for so long, y'know?
