7 ❀ Assignments
| 1. Internal Affairs Perhaps the most mundane of assignments but someone has to help keep this citadel running, right? There are hoses to be fed, fields to be weeded, and don't forget the other odd duties here and there. With this many spirits inone citadel, someone has to help make sure everyone has dinner and the laundry is done! Hopefully you have a good partner helping you today but as some might know, sometimes the bigger question isn't who they are but where they are... Someone has to do the dirty work! So where are you?! 2. Expeditions Not everything is about fighting. Sometimes there are assignments to gather intel or help clean up after another squad. There are small things that can be done to make sure history follows its course and some fo those things include feeding the hungry after a disaster or just making sure the right people meet after their paths were thrown off. Expeditions are perfect for the new addition that needs to be eased into missions before being sent to the frontline. 3. Frontlines - Before Whether you're ready or not, it's time to go out to the frontlines. There's a big mission everyone needs to do and history is wildly off course. A squad is gathered up and sent to a difficult time and a battle is inevitable. Is this moment painful for you? Well, such is the nature of a touken danshi, right? Don't get too close to "That Person" and don't get any funny ideas. ... Also, where's [insert name of problematic sword boy that was assigned on this mission for some god unknown reason]? Or maybe it's been 20 years and you're still on this mission! Sometimes missions last longer than a few days or weeks. They can drag on for months and those months sometimes become years. How have you been keeping your cover and making a living in this era? Remember, don't stand out or cause too much trouble. Are you homesick? When was the last time you saw the saniwa or your friends back home? Will this mission ever end?! 4. Frontlines - Battle Finally, it's time to fight! Everything you've done has prepared you for this moment and it's time to resolve it once and for all. Did you gather enough information to prepare for all of these enemies? You didn't get any funny ideas that might put you on the wrong side of this assignment, did you? Regardless of what happens, it would appears that [That Person You Keep Losing] has finally decided to show up when you needed them the most so at least you don't have to worry about that anymore. 5. Frontlines - After The battle is finally over and it's time to go back home. Was the mission a success or a total failure? Maybe you're coming back home with a +1 in your party. Regardless, it's time to get yourself checked out now. You've worked hard and it's time to get those repairs in. Hopefully they aren't too severe! But those with heavier injuries can expect to be down for a few days. Don't worry, there will certainly be plenty of bedside visits. 6. Wildcard This is basically an open post to deal with swords doing miscellaneous assignments whether it's mundane chores or mission based assignments. Feel free to come up with your own prompts for things like "babysitting the problematic sword boy," "have you seen Mikazuki Munechika?," and anything else you can think of. |

[Having not been at the citadel for long, this is the first time Ichigo has ever been on a mission with his spouse. He rushes over to the unfortunate messenger and shakes him, only to quickly apologise and let go when he realises what he’s doing.
Then he races out of the room to the last place Mikazuki was seen and starts searching. What could have happened? Has he... been kidnapped?? All kinds of horrible scenarios start cycling in his mind as he forces himself to stay calm and focus on the task at hand.]

[Some are more visibly unhappy about it than others, but none of them seem to be worried, really.
So when they stumble on Mikazuki sitting on the bench of a small rest stop having a cup of tea and dango, they mostly shake their heads, while a few of the more unhappy ones berate him a little for ditching them.]

When he finally discovers that all his worries were for naught, he is very relieved but he also... just really really needs to sit down now from that huge rush of adrenaline and fear. Mikazuki will be the death of him on day...
He slumps down on the bench with a sigh, covering his face with his hands as he tries to compose himself and waits for the urge to yell at Mikazuki to pass.]

OK, fine, he’ll take a bite. He leans over about to take a bite when he realises how it might look and there are other people here— He can’t—! His face immediately turns a bright pink!]

[The sudden, bright blush makes him blink in surprise.]
... Oya? But we are at a tea house. If you don't eat dango here, where are you supposed to eat it?
I guess I could buy some to take with us if you want to?
[No one was looking at you before you got embarrassed, Ichigo. But now that you are making a fuss, they sure are.]

[He totally absolutely blames you for why his mind went straight to the gutter there...! Not to mention that they've been out on this mission for a few days now and since they have to share a room with everyone else...]

Still Mikazuki doesn't promise not to disappear again as he finally gets up with a groan like an old man, dusting off imaginary dust from his hakama.]

He looks up in mid-chew. Oh, they’re leaving now? He gets up as well and stops eating for now, probably to the great relief of the others there.]
Yes, they have. They’ve found signs of the enemy in the woods just outside the city walls.

[Mikazuki suddenly stops and turns towards Ichigo with a small bow of his head.]

That’s true. We were actually just about to leave. That’s why we were looking for you.
[He’s just taken another bite when Mikazuki suddenly turns round, bows and calls him... there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that title and it’s true that Ichigo is the captain this time, but, but, to actually hear Mikazuki call him that so unexpectedly causes him to choke on his food!
The piece of dango is now lodged in his throat and he can’t breath! He is coughing uncontrollably, his face changing colour. Do something, Mikazuki!]

Immediately, Mikazuki comes closer and starts giving Ichigo some slaps on the back... and they are, of course a lot more powerful than you'd expect from someone calling himself an old man all the time.]
Taichou, the battle hasn't even started yet, you can't go and get yourself damaged now!

It does the job though and the dango soon dislodges from Ichigo’s throat. He stumbles back weakly and drops back onto the bench, still coughing a bit.]

Deep breath. Must stay calm and logical. They are on a mission. The mission is more important than their personal relationship. Being called ‘taichou’ would probably make things seem more professional. Ahhhh... but it still feels so strange....!! No, stop this right now, Ichigo Hitofuri. Act like a ‘taichou’.]
No, i-it’s fine. I was just unused to hearing you call me that and it caught me off-guard. I guess while we’re on a mission, it’s better if you didn’t call me just by my name. Well, everyone is waiting. We’d better hurry back, Mikazuki.... -dono.
[And he’s going to lead the way back to camp.
He is curious to know what these other names might be though...! Just don’t call him ‘Goshujin-sama’ in the middle of a battle! He’d be so flustered and distracted that he would most probably get killed!]

And he is going to smile at the 'dono' hastily tacked to his name. It's been a while since he's heard it, and honestly it does make most of the swords present smile a little too, but he isn't going to say anything about it.
For now, though, off they go, leaving the confines of the city for the woods where the enemy was spotted. Time to earn your keep, isn't it?]

Unfortunately, the woods where the scouts last reported seeing the enemy is dense and it being an overcast day isn’t helping matters. Ichigo surveys his surroundings carefully and thinks he hears something to their left... then he notices movement there and is about to give the order to move in that direction when he sees something move quickly to their right as well, then in front of them and behind-! Dammit! They’ve just walked into an ambush!]
Everyone, stay close and alert! We’re surrounded on all sides!

Mikazuki slowly unsheathes his blade, the soft grey light of the overcast day glinting on it.]
Oya oya, this is going to be a little troublesome, isn't it? What are your orders, taichou?
[This is Ichigo's mission after all. He will act on his own if he feels it's needed, but so far, everyone is safe.]

The plan goes smoothly for a short while, with the enemy remaining just out of sight, seemingly holding back for some reason. Something just does not seem right. Ichigo immediately motions for everyone to stay still and it’s at that moment that the Kebiishi charges through the trees towards them...!]

Mikazuki's smile widens a little as he takes a step forward, breaking the circle.]
Well then, I guess it's time to earn my keep.
[In an instant, he has disappeared and when he becomes visible again, it's in the air, right above the kebiishi ootachi leading the charge.
The crescent-shaped beams of energy erupt from his blade as he strikes down, flattening the enemy into the ground and disintegrating it.]

[And then everything happens so quickly and dramatically that before he has time to process all this, it’s over and the enemy seems to all have been obliterated!
What just- How- Did Mikazuki do this all by himself?? Has he always been capable of something like that? Ichigo isn’t sure since this is the first time he’s ever gone into battle with him... but....
All he can do for now is blink and stare, partly into shock, partly entranced, slightly turned on and completely distracted. So distracted that he doesn’t even notice the shadowy figure sneaking up to him, sword raised...]
