Beach. Everyone has been working so hard lately so why not take a break and enjoy the beach? You can make sand castles, play in the water, and there are even umbrellas for those who'd rather just relax in the shade. There's a nice row of water melons ready to be smashed later in the day and when the sun goes down, that's when the sparklers come out.
Suffering. It's the hottest time of the year and the citadel doesn't have central air conditioning. The few air conditions that were installed have given up on life after being used so much and now, we really have to make do with what we can while the Konnosuke try to fix it. There's a limited number of fans, plenty of ice cream to go around, and the citadel should be built to circulate air, right? ... Right?!
Spooks. In Japan, summer is a time for horror. Gather around the camp fire and hear some spooky ghost stories or maybe head out into the woods just outside the citadel for a good ol' fashioned test of courage. It's all good, harmless fun! Of course, with so many spirits gathered in one place, what's to say a stray or curious outsider spirit won't join the mix...
Rain. Summer is also known for sudden and torrential downpours of rain. The clouds always seem to grown and darken suddenly and the next thing you know, it's raining sheets and the ground is shaking from thunder. Once it starts, it never seems to stop. Maybe you were caught out in the rain or maybe this is day 7 stuck inside.
Other! It's summer and there are tons of things to do. Go to the general store and stock up on ice cream, wake up in the middle of the night uncomfortable with heat, or run around screaming because cicadas are dying and flying at your face.
[ Yagen clings to him harder as Kanesada starts, wondering if it really is worth his life to continue this charade now. The creature, in the meantime, turns its pale face up at Kanesada in the moonlight, to reveal…nothing. ]
[ Damn, he’s fast. Too fast, even. Even with Izuminokami holding on tightly Yagen feels as though the momentum is trying to drag him away from the man.
He’d expected Kanesan to get scared, but this isn’t a super satisfying scream at all!! ]
[ He couldn't Even if he wanted to he couldn't get his legs to stop running. What kind of spirit was that?! What did it want with the citadel?! Did they disturb its home?? WAS IT GOING TO HAUNT HIM NOW??!
His head looks back and forth as he tries to spot a place to hide in this darkness when he finally sees a tree big enough to cover. Quickly he darts behind it, panting loudly and awkwardly hunching over with Yagen still on his back. ]
I-I didn't think these woods were really haunted..!
Wh-who's faint of heart?! I-I only ran to protect you!
[ Well, he rain to protect them both, but he was trying to sound cool here... It wasn't quite working though, but he still wanted to try and look cool in front of Yagen... ]
I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I let you get hurt worse...!
[ …Ugh, Kanesan is being super cool right now, even if he’s only using that as a front to cover up his own nervousness about this entire ordeal, because he knows that Kanesada is the type of idiot to do that regardless if it means saving an actually injured comrade from an actually dangerous situation.
[ As much as he tried not to show it off to the others, there were some older swords that he just couldn't help but admire and Yagen was one of them. So hearing what he heard really just... well it made this scary experience even better. ]
[ Ugh…don’t look at him like that!! He’s supposed to look up to you too, squad leader!! Yagen frowns, trying to hide his blush by looking away with a huff. It would be nice to regale his brothers and Horikawa with tales of Izuminokami bravely running away from danger later on, but right now…well. He doesn’t feel like it. Hmph! ]
A—Anyway, if you make a right turn at that bedsheet ghost standing over there, you should be able to find the path home soon.
[ He won’t judge…too much. What he’d seen of Izuminokami tonight was more than enough entertainment already. If the man was ready to go home, then Yagen won’t stop him. ]
At least you’ll probably escape from here without ending up like Mutsunokami and Nagasone.
Whatever happened to that fierce resolve of yours?
[ Not that that matters anymore since Kanesada did run away from one of the spooks in the forest already.
But in some ways that’s actually kind of a smart move. Test of courage this may be, but an uchigatana willing to assess the situation and retreat in the face of overwhelming…spookiness can be an asset too! ]
[ He huffs loudly, giving Yagen a gentle squeeze to make sure he was still on his back just fine before turning back toward the forest. He'll show him crying!!! ]
I'm the innocent party here there's no way there's a list.

Wh-what was that...?

But well this all works out. Probably. He’ll have to make a note to congratulate Midare on crafting such an incredibly convincing mask later on.
Right now he’ll just. Give Kanesan a halfhearted pat on the back. There there. ]
I did warn you… [ He sighs. ] This test of courage is not for the faint of heart.

Izuminokami shivers at the thought. It was hard to tell when Yagen was joking sometimes because he was really good at keeping a straight face. ]
