[It is no secret in the Citadel that the Genji treasures are highly favored here.
It's also no secret among the swords that one Genji trasure highly favors Aruji. And that he isn't being deterred by anything, really.
He keeps bringing back little gifts - or not so little ones. And occasionally, Aruji throws a fit about some of them. but that doesn't stop him, and he just brings back something different the next time.
This time, he strides into the office without knocking as usual and plops something wet and smelly on the desk.
A fish. A big fish. A red spotted sea trout by the look of it.
And he's looking very proud. Aruji is lucky he didn't just dump the fish in his lap, to be honest.]
( It's a good thing most of his work is digital so there aren't any papers on the desk. At least, nothing very important. Just a few kimono designs and random notes from reports he hadn't put into one comprehensive report yet. The first squad should be returning by now so he really isn't surprised when Higekiri shows up.
... And by now, he really isn't surprised to see the fish. At least it isn't a head or an arm... or honestly, something still alive. )
( Show some respect to the dead fish, okay! He really can't help but snap-- he's not particularly well known for his cool patience. But he sighs. He at least tries to be better with his swords and he knows Higekiri is trying hard... for some reason he doesn't really get. )
Let's go put it in the fridge before it rots. ( He's getting up and looking at the fish. Is... should he carry it or? ) You can tell me about the mission on the way to the kitchen.
[Higekiri just blinks at Aruji as his hand is grabbed. Apparently, he is supposed to be carrying the fish, but since Aruji is coming with him, it's fine. He grabs the fish (his clothes need washing and mending anyway) and follows his master out.
he does manage to give a semblance of report on the way. Apart from not really remembering any names and so not being able to tell exactly who did what, it's surprisingly detailed. Also he remembers what type of sword did what, so when one knows the composition of the squad, it becomes easier to parse.]
... No Kebiishi this time, but whoever was there left a lot of enemies behind. Probably a low level squad or a beginning Saniwa who overestimated their abilities.
[When they come into the kitchen, he plops the fish down in front of whoever is busy at the counter.]
He listens to the report. He actually pays attention and by now, he's used to Higekiri not remembering names or faces very well but the details he gets from him are good enough. As the one who organized the squad, he's more than able to figure out who did what based on the sword descriptions. There are some moments where he isn't sure which tachi did what exactly but he can figure that out later. )
So someone not taking thing seriously, either way. ( Ugh. ) I have our next mission already, actually...
( But he'll explain that after they deal with This. Kasen is in the kitchen just beginnign to get things ready for dinner when he looks down at the fish with a grimace. Really, did he have to put it down like that? On the counter? He has food out already, you know. Ugh. He complains and scolds Hikgekiri but eventually takes the fish after asking a few questions and inspects it to make sure it's still good. He'll make something with it tonight before it goes bad.
Satsuki thanks him and they exchange a sort of Knowing Look because they're both frustrated souls and he heads out, expecting HIgekiri to follow, )
... What does it have to do with being old enough? I just want you to come with me?
[But it looks like that won't happen, and Higekiri pouts, but doesn't insist. he'll go get himself cleaned up and change into his non-battle clothes... And then trot back to Satsuki's office since he interpreted that last sentence as 'please come bother me again when you are clean', because of course he did.
he doesn't knock before he comes in, although he does close the door behind himself, and then just goes to sit himself right next to Satsuki so he can lean against him and put his head on his shoulder.
( He's gotten a preliminary report from Konnosuke as in the midst of reading it. He skims through some of the battle reports to confirm what Higekiri already told him and to clarify some of the parts he was more vague about but right now, he's focused on making sure that the mission was a success. He'd already reviewed he report given to him by the government explaining what had happened before their squad arrived and he's aware of the damages and alterations that happened because of the previous squad's interference.
But it looks like his squad has cleaned up well. The buildings that needed to be repaired were fixed up and even the less important ones were sped along. The right people met who they were supposed to and everything seemed to be going along just fine. Of course, it wasn't perfect-- once history has been changed, it's impossible to truly return it to how it was exactly meant to be but the changes were so unimportant, he'd consider this as close to perfect as it could get. All of the enemies were disposed of and that point in time should be safe for a while, now.
By then, Higekiri has returned from the bath, clean and changed. He doesn't move when Higekiri rests his head on his shoulder. )
You did good. We shouldn't have to make anymore trips there.
[It's nice when Aruji doesn't push him away or try to find excuses not to let him cuddle.
Aruji seems to have this weird idea that one should not get too close to their swords. Higekiri thinks it is, in so many words, bullshit. He has yet to meet a single Saniwa who doesn't love their swords, even if they all have their own ways of showing it. And he knows Aruji loves all of them too.
It's juts that sometimes, Higekiri wishes Aruji would love him a little more. And in little moments like these, where he's allowed to plaster himself to Satsuki's side and not pushed away or scolded or given strange excuses as to why this is not proper, he gets more hopeful. His Aruji does love him, but he's holding onto some sort of weird human rule. Which is ridiculous, because he's very powerful for a human, to start with, and secondly, they're both men here so none of the usual trouble people might hink of is even an issue.
And so Higekiri keeps bringing back little presents, and looking for opportunities to spend more time with Aruji. Like now.]
Hmmm... It wasn't too hard. The Kebiishi didn't even show up.
( When your job is literally cleaning up after everyone else, it makes you a more cautious person. It also just doesn't help that he's not exactly the warmest person. Unlike most saniwa who can casually get along with their swords and easily give praise and affection, he's just a little more prickly.
But for now, he'll let Higekiri rest. He's probably tired, he thinks. Missions are tiresome. )
I still want the Konnosuke to do a check up. ( Easy or not, he just wants to have his records in order. ) ... Since it was an easy enough assignment, it can wait a bit but I want you to see him first thing in the morning, got it?
Of course it can't be that easy. Well, this isn't as bad as it could be and he doesn't mind this too terribly. He sort of just looks down at Higekiri though, )
( There are other things, smaller things, some things that are less for official reasons and more for fun and leisure but, well, it really does look like he's stuck here for now. He move one hand to cover Higekiri's face from view... and push back some of his hair. )
... I'll wake you up when I'm finished.
( It no secret that he favors the Genji swords and that means he sometimes spoils them. )
( The cherry blossoms are a surprise. They always are and he stops what he's doing to catch some of them. As much as he spoils the Genji swords, he doesn't really get them.
He doesn't dwell on it too much, though. There's no point trying to make sense out of some things, at least, not in this current moment. Focusing back on his work, it takes him a while to finish. He's meticulous with his reports, always reporting exactly what needs to be. He has his own personal report he needs to write-- something he can refer to when he has to come back to this period. And no doubt, he'll certainly have to come back. He doesn't really do much else except occasionally asking Konnosuke to confirm a historical record here and there. There's footage to review every now and then too and he makes notes to have certain things checked out in repairs.
But when he's finished... he doesn't wake up HIgekiri. He worked hard on the mission (he saw it in the videos himself) and he's earned his rest. )
[By the time Satsuki is finished, Higekiri has gone from simply dozing to outright sleeping. His weight is actually heady on Satuki's lap and he's also... less restrained, even if he is not very restrained normally.
So it's sort of a natural thing for him as he moves a little to just... put his arm around Satsuki's waist and just hold him close so that he can all but bury his face against his stomach. Breathing in Aruji's scent. It's too bad he didn't come to bathe with him, really, but this is good too.
Are the sakura petals becoming even more numerous? Maybe.]
Aruji~

... You shouldn't have.
( Really. )

And of course, instead of taking his master's words for what they actually mean ('Please stop bringing back dead things'), he just beams.]
I thought it looked delicious. Can we eat it tonight?
[And now he's poking the fish.]
Do you like it, Aruji?
no subject
There's still time before Kasen starts making dinner.
( Please stop poking that fish. It just makes it look all the more unappealing like this.. laid on his desk. Smelling like fish. )
... I'll like it better when you've given it to Kasen.
no subject
Hmmmm... But shouldn't I give you the report first?
[Probably not, because you were not the squad captain and you won't remember anyone's name to put in front of numbers anyway.]
We killed a whole lot of enemies! It was a big clean-up.
[Higekiri doesn't want to leave the office just yet. He has a bit of alone time with Aruji so he wants to enjoy it. Dead fish on desk or not.]
no subject
Stop that.
