Beach. Everyone has been working so hard lately so why not take a break and enjoy the beach? You can make sand castles, play in the water, and there are even umbrellas for those who'd rather just relax in the shade. There's a nice row of water melons ready to be smashed later in the day and when the sun goes down, that's when the sparklers come out.
Suffering. It's the hottest time of the year and the citadel doesn't have central air conditioning. The few air conditions that were installed have given up on life after being used so much and now, we really have to make do with what we can while the Konnosuke try to fix it. There's a limited number of fans, plenty of ice cream to go around, and the citadel should be built to circulate air, right? ... Right?!
Spooks. In Japan, summer is a time for horror. Gather around the camp fire and hear some spooky ghost stories or maybe head out into the woods just outside the citadel for a good ol' fashioned test of courage. It's all good, harmless fun! Of course, with so many spirits gathered in one place, what's to say a stray or curious outsider spirit won't join the mix...
Rain. Summer is also known for sudden and torrential downpours of rain. The clouds always seem to grown and darken suddenly and the next thing you know, it's raining sheets and the ground is shaking from thunder. Once it starts, it never seems to stop. Maybe you were caught out in the rain or maybe this is day 7 stuck inside.
Other! It's summer and there are tons of things to do. Go to the general store and stock up on ice cream, wake up in the middle of the night uncomfortable with heat, or run around screaming because cicadas are dying and flying at your face.
“You needn’t apologize, Tonbokiri. I just didn’t want you feeling any sort of guilt for ‘taking up my time’ when I’ve been enjoying this time with you.”
He let out a softer huff this time, tucking some shorter strands behind his ear. Tonbokiri was kind and easy to talk to, a man worthy of respect... he didn’t want the other sword to feel like his presence had somehow bothered him just because he offered up his own services.
[He will try to persuade him for your sake as a fellow big brother!]
This is certainly a very tricky problem... I wonder if it’s perhaps possible to teach him a lesson in some way... but I guess he’s someone who isn’t really ashamed of anything?
[He smiles at that.] He is your brother after all. No matter how troublesome our brothers are, we still love them.
[Tonbokiri is relieved that he got it, and approved.
His eyebrows raise in concern at the mention of a bruise. Shokudaikiri, are you really okay?]
That would be a problem. Mm... [He tilts his head back and forth for a moment, thinking. He's pretty sure he knows this one... ... Ah!]
Ice reduces swelling. So, let us put something cold on it. Fortunate that there are these cooler boxes here! [He gets up to open them, checking for something to use.]
Oh, you brought lots of good things to eat! Everyone will be very grateful. [Are there one of those little pouches of ice in here, though? First aid first.]
"Thank you for saying so. I have been enjoying this time, as well. Very much." Still, he doesn't want Izuminokami to leave feeling offended for him passing on his generous offer... (If the sword presses again... he might just have to relent?)
Reaching around Izuminokami, he adjusts the mirror. "I have finished. I do hope it meets your satisfaction, at least a little."
If anything, he doesn't look much like his usual self, dressed in the dark navy yukata and having his hair so tightly gathered back. But hopefully it's cooler, which was the point.
[Loving Muramasa... as a brother... Tonbokiri falls thoughtfully silent at that. It is... not dissimilar to what Izuminokami-dono had told him about friendship?
Perhaps, one way to know more is to ask swords with experiences beyond his own.]
Ichigo Hitofuri-dono, may I ask you a question?
To you, how does the relationship of 'brother' differ from that of 'comrade'? ...I apologize, if it is a topic too difficult to put into words.
[ Sengo can only turn slightly pale, as he raises one trembling finger toward the door. ]
…That.
[ Should Satori turn, she’ll meet a pair of blinking eyes staring back at her from behind the door—no, they’re on the door, actually. And it isn’t long before a set of eyes blink open upon each panel, revealing a veritable infestation of Mokumokuren.
Although honestly the fair Saniwa herself doesn’t look too out of place among them. ]
“I see you’re joining in the fun as well.” There might be a hint of pride in Sengo’s voice at that, even if Tonbokiri is undressing for perfectly innocent reasons.
Besides, so is Sengo.
“But I won’t be beat when it comes to undr—hey!!” One of the other horses behind him has caught his obi between its teeth, tugging at it as if it might be a particularly stubborn piece of fodder. Sengo, half laughing and half exasperated, tries to tug it free.
Not scared. It takes more than that to scare her. But no, she's not happy.]
How did they even get in?
[Before Sengo can answer, though, she suddenly raises her hand.]
You know what? I don't fucking care. If they wanna watch me pee, more power to them.
[And she steps into the bathroom and slams the door behind herself.
When she comes out five minutes later, though, she fishes a paper ofuda from her pocket and focuses some spiritual power in it... and then slaps it on top of the door.]
Tell me if they're still here tomorrow morning. I'm going back to bed. And don't fucking get undressed!
It... doesn't really hurt much. But both of them are pretty much a mess like this. I suppose on rainy days my joints feel a little off...? But I mostly cover them up... out of embarrassment.
[ Since Mitsutada likes to be prepared for anything that might happen, especially with the energetic sword bunch they have running around the beach, he actually did pack a couple first aid kits and some ice pouches inside one of the coolers. ]
I figured since everyone was blowing off a lot of energy, they'd need something to keep cool and stay charged up...
[Wow, he came super-prepared. A couple of first aid kits?]
You are ever so thoughtful of everyone. This time, please allow me.
[He turns back to Shokudaikiri with a kind smile, holding an ice pack wrapped in a hand towel. Leaning in close to his face Tonbokiri notes with concern,]
It is a bit red. Here, if you lie down you can rest the ice on your face without holding it there.
He wouldn't exactly call this 'for fun'... But Muramasa is this kind of sword. Perhaps he should simply be glad to spend time with him, odd though the situation may be.
His wry smile at that turns into an outright laugh at the horse's antics.
"I agree, you won't be beat with assistance like that."
Oh... Okay. [He looks away a little sheepishly and helps carry the shopping.
He looks over at her.]
... ...I'll try. [But he doesn't really know how to relax! He has so many responsibilities and all the stress that comes with those responsibilities...]
[ He lets out a loud huff at that, but despite his annoyance, he was still careful with her hair, making sure not to tug it anymore than putting it up. ]
I can do it just fine. It's just a little more time consuming with hair as long as mine.
His eyes light up the moment he sees his reflection in the mirror. Turning his head from one side to the other, admiring the work Tonbokiri did. He really did just seem like the happiest sword right now.
[Ichigo can't help being loving and affectionate, especially to those he cares deeply about. He looks up with a grateful smile, still holding his hand tenderly.]
[... that is a question Ichigo has never thought about. He takes a moment to consider it.]
Well, the most basic definition of a 'brother' in our case, would be those who were crafted by the same swordsmith as yourself. But there is also this deeper and more personal emotional bond, this intense need you feel inside to protect them and love them unconditionally, and you're happy when they are happy. You're also willing to do anything for them.
While a 'comrade' could be anyone we fight alongside with on the battlefield or any of the other swords here. There could be a great level of trust between you and a 'comrade' since we need this trust to be able to work effectively together, but... it's less of a personal connection. It's a more professional connection where we are all working towards the same goal for the sake of our master.
But there are also some 'comrades' that you've managed to build such a strong bond with that they can feel like a 'brother' to you...
