1 ❀ SECOND MONTH / WINTER MEME
1 ❀ SECOND MONTH / WINTER MEME ![]() |
1. HOUSE WARMING Before winter hits in full blast, it's time to celebrate. Everyone's been fixing up the citadel for the past month and what do they have to show for it? A gorgeous citadel they can finally call home. Sure, it might not be perfect yet (there are still a few stray spirits trying to test them) but it's nothing that can't be fixed later. There's plenty of food to go around and for the first time all month there's more than enough alcohol to get 2. STAY WARM (I just wanna cuddle) It happened gradually so the swords should have seen it coming but it's like the temperature dropped suddenly overnight. Did the swords turn the heater on the night before? Maybe they did but it wasn't enough... because this morning, it's like waking up in an icebox instead of a home. They better hope that there's a sword around who knows how to adjust the heat or they're going to have to find other ways to keep warm until a modern adult comes home. 3. WINTER WEATHER Gross. Maybe the swords were looking forward to snow but that's not happening. It started off as cold rain and then there was a slushy mix of ice and rain while they were coming in from the stables. Or maybe it's the sudden hail storm in the middle of the night that wakes you up and ruins winter for you. Either way, there's no doubt about it. Winter is here and if you're patient... The first snow will come. When the swords wake up one morning, they can find everything covered snow. It's your first snow so don't be afraid. 4. TIS THE SEASON And I mean cold season. It was never a problem before but now you have bodies and you need to take care of them. Try as you might, though, some things just can't be helped. It starts off with a scratch in the throat and then WHAM! You have chills but you're burning up, everything hurts, you smell like sickness, food tastes like muck, and even though you've been told you aren't dying it sure does feel like it. 5. WINTER CELEBRATIONS (PART I) With winter comes festivals and who wouldn't be excited? If the swords can find a clearing in the woods, they can look down and see the little town at the foot at the mountain. What was once a dimly light town at night has suddenly brightened overnight. There are lights of all colors flashing and sometimes, on particularly quiet nights, you can hear laughter and music. What's it for? Hana will eventually explain Christmas. It's a very basic explanation she's remembered from school: A Christian holiday that has become popular in Japan. The best part is being with friends, eating together, and exchanging gifts. She'll explain the other curious customs like writing letters to Santa and what not so feel free to run wild. And what about more traditional celebrations? The town is having a snow festival-- tiny snowmen and ice sculptures line the streets. It's very popular so people from all over the country are coming! Even weirdos from Tokyo........... in case anyone wants to take turns sneaking down. 6. WINTER ASSIGNMENTS The citadel is up and running so it's time to get out there and do some missions! While different teams head out to the frontline, you might be left behind wondering what else there is to do. Don't worry! There are still things to do on the homefront until your turn comes around . B. Expeditions. You're in this for the long haul. Your mission is to go undercover and try to find out where and when the enemy will attack. You could be working for days, weeks, months, or even ye-- okay, this is a pretty easy mission so it shouldn't take that long. That said, how's your reconnaissance? If you're going to be living in this time for awhile, you should learn to dress up like the people... you know... fit in and not be so sword. C. Neighborhood Welcome. There are some new neighbors at the citadel! They're very shy so it's hard to see them... but they aren't afraid to let themselves be known. It starts off innocent enough-- someone will throw a snowball at the window when no one is outside or a branch will suddenly drop piles of snow on top of you when you're out. But the pranks grow until suddenly, all of the snow on the roof is crashing in your direction. You open the door to go outside and you're completely snowed in. Get to the bottom of any of these mishaps and you'll catch glimpses of what look like little bipedal snow rabbits causing mischief. They just want to have fun and don't appreciate being ignored. Engage in a snowball fight to the death to appease them. You'll know you've won because later that night you'll hear mysterious singing. A woman in white gathers up the smaller spirits and together, they sweep across the citadel, leaving a blanket of fresh snow and a blue teapot on the veranda with a note "to good health." Anything made in the pot is tastes perfect and is just the right temperature. The sick will recover faster and the healthy will feel warm and happy... are those cherry blossoms in the winter? D. Let Them Eat Cake. For most of December, the swords will find fruit baskets and various slices of cake in different takeaway boxes. The fruit baskets are nothing special other than the fact they never stop coming but the cake comes with a note from the saniwa to help themselves and let her know which one is your favorite by sticking a note on the refrigerator (sticky notes provided for your use). Picking Christmas cakes is important work so stuff your faces. 7. PICK YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. You know what to do. Be a new arrival, come in for repairs, destroy a microwave, be a sword. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is our second catch-all open post! Our next post will be a mini New Year Meme at the end of year. Remember to read the information post for information on our setting and saniwa-chan. If you have any questions, let me know @ eski on plurk. |
hana ( saniwa-chan )
When another sword comes in, she's doing an inventory of the medicine cabinet. She isn't even turning around so god forbid you're actually hurt because she just says, )
For the last time, no one's dying.
( She sounds as gentle as ever... just a little tired. )
6ish. It's Teambuilding
Is there a problem...?
( She already sounds like she isn't going to budge but some people have had luck so that's reason to have hope, right?! )
7. Wildcard

[The fox runs over to climb onto Hana's shoulder, fur all fuzzy with worry. Is Naki even here? Yes he is, he just sneezed from the doorway.]

4!
And who is desperate?
Kanesada is desperate.
So desperate that he's even dragged himself out of his apparent deathbed, haphazardly wrapped himself in a blanket, and somehow managed to make it to the saniwa's room without keeling over, though his coughing and sniffling undoubtedly announced his presence long before he actually got there. But it's okay. Well, not really, because this is surely the end, but he has something he needs to do. And Hana can help him, right?
He opens his mouth to tell of his great plan, but is immediately interrupted with a boldfaced lie. And that makes him stumble (even over nothing) and he takes a moment to brace himself against the doorway.]
You say that, but I still wanna make preparations.
[You know. Just in case.]
(no subject)
4.....
Yeah, I know. I just came to get some cough drops or something. Do they have anything that make fevers better, too? I've already got washcloths and stuff, but...

So Kousetsu prepares some nicely flowered-perfumed tea and bring it to the Saniwa's room, only to find her sleeping at the table with her head pillowed on her arms.
He gently puts down the tray with the tea and then takes off the haori he'd thrown on to put it on her shoulders.]

urashima kotetsu
( Someone is a little unhappy this morning and the strange thing is, it's Urashima of all swords. Anyone who knows Urashima knows he's a good kid that does his best. He makes sure to put his futon up every morning so a certain futon spirit won't smother him in his sleep and everything! But today, he can be found sulking about the citadel, the thick, winter blanket from his futon wrapped around him like a turtle burrito. )
Kamekichi! Where'd you go? Come back, it's too cold for turtles...
( And for turtle swords. Kamekichi's gone off to find a warmer place to hide for the winter... she's probably under a kotatsu or in someone's heated blanket somewhere. )
5. This feels questionable to me
( Someone might have accidentally stumbled onto your plans to sneak into the village. Of course, it would be the cinnamon roll who is watching you very uncertainly as you get ready to head out. )
Won't you get in trouble if aruji-san sees you...

[It's not that Taroutachi is dying to go to town. He'd just about go anywhere that doesn't involved staying cooped up in the house, really. Although of course, being who he is, he wasn't actually sneaking out and simply leaving using the front door, so that it's not exactly hard to stumble on him.
And no one told him he wasn't supposed to go out, so he'll assume he can. Divine swords don't ask for permission or something.]

mutsunokami "dragon puppy" yoshiyuki
Or at least, in part. The other part is he's just the kind of guy who gets drunk off the atmosphere easily so of course he's going to get a little wild when the party is going. While everyone is sitting, he's up on his feet telling the most dramatic stories to anyone who will listen (particularly the tantou and wakizashi spirits). Right now, he's regaling everyone with the epic love story of Ryouma and Oryou. )
--and while she was takin` a bath, a spear came right through the window! ( Fwoosh, hand straight through the air like a spear and he's looking around to make sure everyone is listening. ) And ya know what she did?
( A n s w e r h i m. )
3. Swords are Old
It's not everyday you get to see a Mutsu at rest and deep in thought. So you can choose to enjoy the peace and quiet or ask him what's on his mind so late at night. )
6A. The Wrong Side of Town
( SCREAMING.
Mutsu is actually screaming when he makes a run for it down the streets of old Kyoto, yelling at you to ask questions later and just run into the market crowd. There's someone chasing behind him... actually, there are several someones all dressed in the signature blue of the Shinsengumi and they're yelling something about how they aren't going to get away.
When you ask him what the hell did he do he just yells back, )
Nothing! I didn't do anythin`!
( And yet, here they are, running from the police. )
7. Wildcard
6a we can't take you anywhere
All he knows is Mutsu is running and he needs to be running, too, and the pursuers are very familiar and his haori could make things even more needlessly complicated. He probably could use it to their advantage, but then that would mean getting more involved with history and that's just something they can't do.
Ugh, Mutsu.]
Somehow I don't believe you!
[But Kanesada continues running, reaching up to undo his haori so he can at least get rid of that big ol' signpost.]
he'll take *you* anywhere
3!
But tonight he's feeling a little restless, and it leads him to the same veranda despite the crisp chill in the air. He's bundled up, but it's still pretty cold, and he can see his breath float away in little puffs.
When he comes across Mutsu, he pauses for a second, and then:]

Kousetsu Samonji
[Well, well...Kousetsu woke up because of the cold, and then made sure the other Samonjis were tucked nicely in their futons and added his own bedcovers on top of their while he goes in search of... well basically where one would normally keep the fire, except there isn't really something like that, is there? Or rather, there is, but it looks a little strange to him. Still, there's fire and there's wood, so surely if you add more wood on the fire, at some point some heat is going to radiate from the kitchen towards the rest of the house...
But it's a big house and it's going to take a long time to heat that way. So clearly, they need more fires in different places, but there doesn't seem to be any place to actually light fires.]
"Well, this is rather inconvenient."
[Someone please stop him before he punches a hole through the roof and sets fire to the house somehow in the hopes of warming people up.]
6D. LET THEM EAT CAKE
[Kousetsu has tried several of the cakes so far and found them all extremely good. Right now he is busy arranging several of them on a plate. Initially he'd planned to share them with Souza and Sayo, but if you come into the kitchen and look
pitifulhungry enough...]Would you like some? They are very good.
7. WELCOME / WILD CARD
[Welcome him as a new arrival or choose whatever.]
2 please don't burn the house down they worked so hard on it
Of course, not all the swords are in the same boat, so when he sees Kousetsu wandering and looking dreadfully lost, Nikkari can't help but smile, immediately hiding it behind a hand. He's not laughing at you, just at your situation.]
Kousetsu Samonji. It seems you need a helping hand.
give him something to make heat so he won't
2
Although... it's still a bit chilly. And still late at this hour...
Finally, curiosity and concern got Sayo to quietly crawl out from the futon. And slip out of the room, hopefully without waking up Souza.
... And that's how he come across his brother, looking like he's troubled by something.]
Niisama?
[What are you doing?]
(no subject)
Taroutachi
[Now drinks, drinks are good. Everybody might think that Jiroutachi is the drunkard, but the truth is, Taroutachi can drink just as much as his brother and frequently does so whenever alcohol is available. When it is in short supply he usually lets Jirou have it first and only takes what's left, for both their peace of mind. So while he is making sure his brother's sake cup is somehow always full, he's also knocking them back himself and there's colors to his cheeks right now.
So you might find your sleeve grabbed and a cup thrust towards you. Yes, even if you're a bb tantou.]
Have some. It will warm you up.
4.I SNEEZE IN THE FACE OF DANGER
[When people started dropping like flies, Taroutachi was just wondering how they were all so weak to be so affected by something like this. There was some low-key judging going on, until this morning where in the middle of cleaning up a room he suddenly sneezes and drops his broom to put both hands on his mouth and nose.
What... just happened...
And his head feels heavy, and isn't it a bit hot in here?]
Can you open a window?
6C. SNOW RABBITS
[At first, having been taught about snow, it's easy enough to ignore the occasional bit of it falling from branches and from the roof and dismiss it as natural or 'that's how things happen here'. But now that definitely was a snowball in Tarou's face and no matter how hard he looks around, he can't seem to see anyone here who could have done that, not even one of the kids.]
Show yourself!
7. WILD CARD

Yagen Toushirou
So, what seems to be the trouble?
[When winter came, Yagen find himself in the repair room even more often than before. But instead of repairs, it's for the illnesses that seems to struck their very human bodies. As their volunteered doctor sword, it's up to Yagen to look after them.
And probably figure out what to do, until General comes to educate him.]
► 6. Seek and Destroy... Eventually
[Seriously, who let the blind grandpas scout? After wandering around for a while and mentally mapping the area they're in, Yagen finally speak up.]
... Perhaps, I should go ahead and scout?
[Please, they don't need to take forever to complete this mission.]
► 7. Mad Science
Thank you for agreeing to this.
[Did they really? Those who agreed will be sitting on sitting on a futon set up in the attic. Nothing happened yet, but Yagen wants his test subjects to feel reasonably comfortable.
However, those he knows would disagree but he wants to use their body would get strapped to a table with their limbs tied.
Either way, there's a glass tube of liquid in Yagen's hands. Enjoy?
You probably wouldn't die, but something might happen.]

Nagasone Kotetsu
[ Nagasone's been feeling a little... off for the past few days. Since it's him and he has things to to do, he just brushed it off the best he could and pretend he was fine. It can't be the dreaded winter plague some parts of the citadel caught, he insists in his head. That would feel like dying, wouldn't it? He just woke up stiff at first, and then it was a bit hard to breathe...
Well. Now it's a full-blown fever, sore throat, misery... you know. Now with promptlets: ]
a.))
[ How to act like a Nagasone who is okay: Training! Or at least trying to. He was hoping he could shake off the sickness by being active or pretending he is not that sick. This goes as well as you think it does. If it's him not hitting as hard as he usually is, it's his strikes being punctuated by fits of coughing that would clue someone in. ]
b.))
[ Okay, he gave in a little, maybe he needs something to feel better. Soup, medicine... But he is going to say it's not for him, someone else in the citadel is dying and needs it, trying to deny that he's in rough shape. This is very apparent if you're one of the Shinsengumi swords or his brothers. Please don't worry about him, he's fine... Totally. ]
c.))
[ Finally, the towel is thrown in the ring. This is the prompt where someone tries to keep dad in bed where he's supposed to be and tends to him. That is a task, as dictated by Saniwa-chan because a sword refusing he is affected by being ill is just as bad one claiming that they're going to break from a cold. The job isn't all bad though! It's like... babysitting. Just make sure he rests and doesn't leave his room. ]
d.))
[ Insert timeskip here... but FREEDOM! He's finally recovering and everything's great--
...Oh. Now he's back to being the dad/niichan who has to take care of other swords. Time to repay the favor, since something that's probably hard for swords to grasp is that these sort of things are contagious. If it's his fault, he's really sorry. ]
7. Wildcard Option!
((If you want to go with a different prompt, be my guest! (I just love this dumb trope and went turbo with it) Just mention in your comment what you want to do and I can come up with something, or you can set it up.))
b!
But instead of tackling it more directly, he'll be a punk about it, because he's Kashuu and that's his job.]
Hmm? Who needs the soup now? I'll go take it to them, since I'm already bringing some in a few minutes.

Tonbokiri
A note that sticks to things. A sticky note. His eyes shine in amusement and a small chuckle escapes him. What a small but useful thing!
After adding his reply about the cake (the chocolate with chestnuts was the best so far) Tonbokiri just stands there for awhile, admiring the many papers stuck to the refrigerator.
And then noticing that they are in a rather chaotic arrangement, he takes it upon himself to arrange the sticky notes in tidy lines, grouped by cake flavour.
Perhaps this will help Master a bit.
Ah, they seem to stick less well the more you move them. Hopefully he doesn't lose any.
6-C: That's cold! So cold...
It’s amazing to be able to experience for himself all the things that he’d only been able to observe previously. Tasting food! Taking hot baths! Smelling the crisp winter air!
...And some things are certainly more pleasant than others.
When he gets a branch full of snow dumped on him, Tonbokiri lets out an surprised and indignant shout that can probably be heard down in the village. As the snow quickly slides its way down the back of his neck he gives in to this body's instinct and bends forward, roughly brushing as much of the cold away as he can.
"What was that?"
7: I like my clothes.
Tonbokiri’s casual clothes are rather different than some other people’s, he can’t help but notice. What completely unfamiliar styles!
Curious and somewhat idle at the moment, Tonbokiri sits where he can watch people pass by, looking carefully at their clothes while trying to not look too obvious about it.
7: Pick on the newbie adventures
The free-for-all option! Find him wandering? Find him petting the horse? Find him also being curious about where the fire should be laid in this place?
[[Prose or bracket form is ok!]]
6-D
He asks, "What brought this on?"
As in the sudden movement of the notes. He admits he hadn't been paying much attention to them if he has seen them earlier.

Yamato no Kami Yasusada
[It's not like Yamato doesn't know what snow is. He might be oblivious to a lot of things, but even he couldn't miss the weather, especially when he'd spent so many days at Okita's bedside with nothing but the sky and his master to look at. He knows perfectly well what weather is, and he's seen humans experience it enough to at least be aware of concepts like "hot", "cold", "wet"...
But knowing is, of course, completely different from actually experiencing it with a tangible body. He's pleasantly surprised by the blanket of white outside (especially after that miserable sleet nonsense), but he's not so excited that he rushes out to frolick in it. Instead, he goes about his day as normal, pausing only briefly to get caught up in a snowball fight.
Thanks Hanamaru. What he's not ready for? Slipping.
Snow melts, water freezes, ice does whatever ice does--these are all things he's aware of. But nobody told him that the lovely fluffy snow they'd been playing in just the day before would melt just enough to freeze over again, turning everything to ice or sludge, depending on the area. So when Yamato heads out to start on his assigned chores, he makes it about three steps before slipping and falling on his face.]
Ergh--?!
4.
[Yams is too sword to human and no one is surprised: the prompt.
Of course bodies need to be fed and cleaned, blah blah blah, etc. etc. etc., yes he was definitely listening after he got summoned, of course he was, he's a good sword. He's just also extremely sword, and he still isn't quite convinced that he can't actually spend all of his free time sparring and practicing. He also has absolutely no idea how to dress, considering he prances around in a
backwardsscarf every season, so it's really just a matter of time before he gets sick.Perhaps you'll see him huddled underneath all the blankets he could find, nothing more than a potato-shaped lump making pathetic little whining noises. Maybe you'll catch him wide-eyed with worry as he shuffles down the hall towards Hana-chan's room, attempting to drag said blanket hoard along with him. Wherever you catch him, just... just help him. Please.]
4 smgdh
So the sound of his footsteps fade, only to come back a few minutes later. Kashuu's kneeling down next to the side of The Lump next, reaching out to shake - maybe Yamato's head? Maybe his shoulder?? He can't really tell with this huge pile of cotton and wool and batting.]
Hey, get out from under there. I need to take your temperature.
