( There's just the smallest squeeze when he suggests she might have said it wrong. It's embarrassing being wrong and she makes a note to herself to practice harder. She'll make sure she gets it right next time.
The kitchen smells wonderful and her eyes grow wide as she tries to find the source. She's only distracted by Shokudaikiri's introduction and she listens carefully, trying to remember as much as she can... but at the end of this day, she'll only really remember he's the one in charge of meals with someone else she's yet to meet. She nods at the appropriate places and introduces herself again, telling him it's nice to meet him. She'll even tell him what she likes-- she likes sweets, especially ones with fruit because she likes those, too.
Looking over her collection of cakes though, she doesn't know where to begin! It's all too much for her to eat by herself though and after trying a few bites, she sticks her fork into one cake (catching a little bit of cherry on the end) and holds it out to Mikazuki to try just as he's beginning to explain what he thinks she should do, )
Oh... ( She frowns. ) I'm not tired.
( Except she is. But that doesn't mean she's quite ready to sleep... )
[Oh, he's getting a bite! he will accept gratefully.]
Thank you, Aruji.
[He's not even going to talk back about the 'I'm not tired'. He and Shokudaikiri exchange a glance, and they don't need to say anything. Once she has eaten enough - probably too much sugar, but who cares? - Mikazuki offers his hand again.]
Let's get you to the baths, Aruji.
[He escorts her there and then dresses down a little to actually help her bathe properly, helps her into a fresh yukata that was in her clothing chest, and then leads her back to her room where someone else has already laid out the futon.]
It's time to rest for now. There are quiet a few people for you to meet tomorrow.
[There aren't that many of them left, but still a good dozen or so. They will introduce themselves one on one tomorrow.]
( It's entirely too much sugar. More sugar than she's ever really had at once and she doesn't hate it.
Even if she hasn't been here for very long, something is gradually becoming more evident. She's taken to Mikazuki like a duckling and she's always more than willing to follow along after him, quick to hold onto his hand as he leads her from point A to point B, even if it means being tucked into bed.
She doesn't quite lay down though, instead, sitting up in her futon and looking down at her hands, )
... Mikazuki-san? ( There's a lilt to her voice, like she's about to ask one of those curious questions younger children are prone to asking. ) Are you really a sword?
( She hold out her fingers in front of her and looks up at him. He certainly hadn't felt like one. )
[All the others swords have noticed as much, and some of them are pretty glad for it, too, because they're not quite sure what to do with a small human. The tantou seem happy to have a little master, but some of the others are pretty perplex. How do you raise a small human exactly? They are swords, not babysitters.
But Mikazuki doesn't seem flustered about it, so they've wisely decided they can leave it to him.
He smiles at the question, and holds out his hand for her to touch. It's big and warm.]
Yes, I am. But I am also more than that, thanks to Aruji. To the one before you, and now to you as well.
[They may have been summoned by another Saniwa, but it is her power now that will sustain them, heal them, make them stronger.]
It is thanks to you that we have these bodies and can now experience things humans feel. In time you will understand. but it is time for sleep now, Aruji. I'll stay with you until you fall asleep.
( She looks at his hand and reaches out to touch it gently. Her hands are small, and soft, the hands of someone who really hasn't had to work with them very much. It's only now, when she really focuses on their hands touching that just a little bit of her magic seems to actively seep through. It's warm, the kind of life granting magic all saniwa possess but from this day on, it's the magic of his new saniwa.
Mikazuki's answer isn't a new one. She'd hear very similar things before coming here. She doesn't understand all of it but she understands just enough to know the important things: They depend on her and she'll have to take care of them. And soon, she'll learn that she can depend on them and they'll take care of her...
When her concentration breaks, so does that short connection of magic and she nods, getting under the covers and turning on her side to watch Mikazuki just a little more with curious eyes.
An old sword that is now an old man... Hm. )
Good night, Mikazuki-san.
( And Mikazuki is absolutely right. She goes to sleep almost immediately. )
