7 ❀ Assignments

1. Internal Affairs Perhaps the most mundane of assignments but someone has to help keep this citadel running, right? There are hoses to be fed, fields to be weeded, and don't forget the other odd duties here and there. With this many spirits inone citadel, someone has to help make sure everyone has dinner and the laundry is done! Hopefully you have a good partner helping you today but as some might know, sometimes the bigger question isn't who they are but where they are... Someone has to do the dirty work! So where are you?! 2. Expeditions Not everything is about fighting. Sometimes there are assignments to gather intel or help clean up after another squad. There are small things that can be done to make sure history follows its course and some fo those things include feeding the hungry after a disaster or just making sure the right people meet after their paths were thrown off. Expeditions are perfect for the new addition that needs to be eased into missions before being sent to the frontline. 3. Frontlines - Before Whether you're ready or not, it's time to go out to the frontlines. There's a big mission everyone needs to do and history is wildly off course. A squad is gathered up and sent to a difficult time and a battle is inevitable. Is this moment painful for you? Well, such is the nature of a touken danshi, right? Don't get too close to "That Person" and don't get any funny ideas. ... Also, where's [insert name of problematic sword boy that was assigned on this mission for some god unknown reason]? Or maybe it's been 20 years and you're still on this mission! Sometimes missions last longer than a few days or weeks. They can drag on for months and those months sometimes become years. How have you been keeping your cover and making a living in this era? Remember, don't stand out or cause too much trouble. Are you homesick? When was the last time you saw the saniwa or your friends back home? Will this mission ever end?! 4. Frontlines - Battle Finally, it's time to fight! Everything you've done has prepared you for this moment and it's time to resolve it once and for all. Did you gather enough information to prepare for all of these enemies? You didn't get any funny ideas that might put you on the wrong side of this assignment, did you? Regardless of what happens, it would appears that [That Person You Keep Losing] has finally decided to show up when you needed them the most so at least you don't have to worry about that anymore. 5. Frontlines - After The battle is finally over and it's time to go back home. Was the mission a success or a total failure? Maybe you're coming back home with a +1 in your party. Regardless, it's time to get yourself checked out now. You've worked hard and it's time to get those repairs in. Hopefully they aren't too severe! But those with heavier injuries can expect to be down for a few days. Don't worry, there will certainly be plenty of bedside visits. 6. Wildcard This is basically an open post to deal with swords doing miscellaneous assignments whether it's mundane chores or mission based assignments. Feel free to come up with your own prompts for things like "babysitting the problematic sword boy," "have you seen Mikazuki Munechika?," and anything else you can think of. |

The light comment is thinly concealing his worry that her coughing is not abating. Is this normal? He wishes for the skilled Yagen Toushirou at his side in a time like this, but it is only him.
Only him, his two charges, and several malevolent presences behind them, far enough that he cannot tell if they are closing in or not. The only thing to do is hurry forward! He can trust in his endurance and strength.

Exhausted, she lays her head against the nook of his neck, trying her best to stay conscious. It’s a bit easier to breathe in this position, but she is still having difficulty getting enough air into her lungs. She is in serious need of medical attention...

He cannot give that to her now, and it pains him.
She is so tired, and although he wonders if rest would help her, he is afraid to let her lose consciousness.
The fear wins out, and he turns his head to speak more closely into her ear, "Your perception is better than mine. Can you tell if we are being perused?" Yes-no questions will hopefully be not too painful for her to answer.

She can vaguely hear Tonbokiri, or perhaps it is more accurate to say that she felt the vibration of his words, but she can barely make sense of them. She tries to open her eyes yet her eyelids are so very heavy...
She mutters something unintelligible that was meant to be, ‘Sorry, could you repeat that?” She tries again, but then she just gives up. All she wants right now is to sleep...

"Forgive me," he says as he starts making his strides considerably rougher, trying to shake her awake. "Ichigo, stay awake. Tell me if there are enemies near."

She loses consciousness and her grip on him starts to loosen...

He stops as soon as he feels her grip loosen, carefully easing her to the ground. His left arm is still cradling the young Lord, so he lays him on the ground as well, but as he remains drowsy and coughing but conscious, Tonbokiri immediately returns his attention to Ichigo.
He lays her out flat on her back, imaging the easiest way for her to breathe. There... is nothing more for him to do though. He must return her to--
His anxious thoughts are interrupted by a rapid padding noise upon the ground to his right, and without hesitation Tonbokiri points his spear directly at it. He blinks when Konnosuke appears, then breathes a huge sigh of relief that at once turns to urgent words.
"I have the young Lord, but Ichigo needs to return to Honmaru quickly. She breathed in a lot of smoke, and now she lost consciousness..." He reaches over and shakes her shoulder, trying to rouse her.
Konnosuke, always efficient in a pinch, notes his understanding of the situation and brings up a map. "There is a manor some distance from here. That family can take him in and history will resume course. Once he is delivered there, everyone can return to Honmaru." He looks between Ichigo and Tonbokiri in concern. "There are still enemies in the area. It's risky to leave Ichigo defenceless like this, but the faster you can get the child to that house, the better..."
"I made it in time, then," a cool voice says just as Tonbokiri senses his presence behind him. Yagen's expression imperceptibly tightens seeing his sister's condition, but he holds out his arms. "Give me the child. Tilt her chin up a bit to straighten her airway," he adds to Tonbokiri as he hands the young Lord over. His eyes flicker down to the map. "In seven minutes, we return to Honmaru."
And without hesitation, he turns and starts running, quickly as only a tantou can, making a direct line for the house. With a blink, Konnosuke rouses himself out of his awe at the suddenness of it all and starts a timer. And Tonbokiri tilts Ichigo's chin and watches Ichigo carefully, making sure she continues breathing, occasionally glancing up to join Konnosuke in scanning the area around them for enemies.

Konnosuke departs, quickly as only a pipe fox can, to tell the other team members about the status of the mission.
Tonbokiri counts down the seconds on his own, waiting for Yagen's promised time.
And then six powerful enemies descend upon them.
Once they are at last able to return to Honmaru, Tonbokiri is also in poor condition from his fierce battle, but he shakes off all concern in his urgency to see Ichigo taken care of.
It is some considerable time later that finds Ichigo on a bed breathing concentrated oxygen from a mask, Tonbokiri (injuries bandaged and clothing changed) sitting at her side, and Yagen stone-still as he leans against the wall near the door.
The Konnosuke had advised them that it might be some considerable time until she awakens, depending on how much damage she'd done in her time in the fiery house, but there was no reason to deny the two men waiting at her bedside. They were told in no uncertain terms to let her rest thoroughly though.

Standing so that she can see him as she looks up at the ceiling, Tonbokiri smiles in great relief down at her, even as he starts reporting the facts. Hopefully he will answer her questions before she has to draw breath to ask.
"Ichigo, you are back in Honmaru. The mission was successful, and we've all returned safely. You have a mask on that is helping you breathe. You are under strict orders to rest. The Konnosuke say you'll be okay, but it will take time to fully recover your lung capacity. Yagen-dono has gone to get Mikazuki-dono and your siblings. They will want to see you before you fall asleep again.
"Is there anything I can do for you? Don't force yourself to speak if you don't want to. You can indicate yes or no."

She is able to grasp most of what Tonbokiri tells her. Then she nods and lifts her free hand to her mouth, or well, the oxygen mask covering her nose and mouth, and mimes a drinking motion. After which, she mouths the word ‘water’. Her throat is so dry and sore.

Settling gently beside her on the bed, he gets an arm behind her around her shoulders to lift her up into enough of a sitting position to drink. Carefully moving aside the mask, he puts the glass to her lips. By the light grip she'd given his hand, she'd best not even take the glass herself right now.
It worries him deeply to see her like this. But she is alive and will recover, and that will be enough for now.

"Would you like some more?"
And as he tends to her (whether by giving her more water or settling her back down) he informs her, "The others will be here any time now. Because of... how your wound happened, there will always be someone at your side. So please rest assured."
Even though she'd volunteered to run into the burning house, that did not mean that she was more resistant to her history coming back to pain her. Being by her side was the least any of them could do for her.

Ichigo, in her current state, can’t quite get why she’ll need to constantly have someone by her side but she doesn’t mind having company, so she attempts a weak smile and nods. She also feels rather tired now and wants to lie back down, so she tries moving back down.

"I'll get you something good to eat then. I did promise you strawberries to soothe your throat... perhaps you didn't hear me at that time though."
Once she finishes drinking he sets the glass down, and in that moment there is a soft knock on the door, followed by Mikazuki, Yagen, and a long trail of Ichigo's siblings. Acknowledging them, he helps Ichigo settle back down on the bed.
"She is hungry, so I'll return to deliver something here shortly." He gives Ichigo's hand a gentle press. "Rest well and I'll see you later."
And with that he'll let the others take over, and busy himself with finding something suitable for Ichigo to eat. At Shokudaikiri's suggestion, he delivers a rice porridge with strawberries and a touch of cream. They both hope she likes it.
Get well soon, Ichigo.

Like with Tonbokiri, all she can really do right now to communicate is to nod or shake her head, or use simple gestures, or mouth simple words. She soon tires though and Yagen immediately herds their siblings out of the room, letting Ichigo share a brief quiet moment with her beloved before shooing him away as well to let her rest some more.
She will nap while Tonbokiri busies himself with making the porridge.

It seems that Tonbokiri has been subbed in for the moment.
So Tonbokiri puts the porridge on the side table and shifts the chair so that he can lightly place his hand in Ichigo's. His mind wanders aimlessly as he waits, and he idly wonders if she'd be able to smell the strawberries through the tiny vents in the mask. Perhaps it depends on whether her body needs food or sleep more at the moment.

"That is clear enough, isn't it. Here, I'll help you sit up again. Shokudaikiri suggested a rice porridge with strawberries and a little cream. It's cooled off quite a bit by now, but I'm sure it will still be delicious."
Getting her propped up against some pillows against the wall, he can start to spoon feed her. He carefully doesn't put too much on the spoon, and holds it so near her lips that she barely needs to move to take a mouthful.

He asks her questions, carefully giving her time to respond to each one, "Are you finished? Or would you like more? Or something different? Something to drink?"

She blushes lightly, trying to figure out how to tell Tonbokiri. Eventually, Ichigo reaches out to take his hand, then she traces the word ‘toilet’ in his palm.
